Smart Technology and Energy Efficiency

You’ll recognize innovation the moment you step foot in a Water’s Edge home - and from the moment you step out of it. Imagine composing a letter or surfing the Web from a canoe in the 3 acre pond at Water’s Edge. How about considering the possibility of telecommuting rather than fighting traffic everyday? How about considering opening your own business right in your own community and walking or biking to work for a healthy and economical change?

Our homes set a standard for automation and convenience features. Water’s Edge homes will be equipped with the latest in Fiberoptics To The Home (FTTH) technology and fully wired as well with CAT 5 Ethernet ports and traditional phone lines. Local dial tone and long distance telephone service will also be available over the wireless network using Voice over IP (VoIP) technology. Options will include smoke detectors that will send a signal to your cell phone and the ability to log on anywhere and see what’s going on in your home and the community with Web cams.

The main benefit, however, is that Water’s Edge will also be completely unwired. Someone could move in and never plug a computer into anything but a power socket. The main antennas around Water’s Edge will beam a signal to each home and a wireless hub in the home will send signals to wireless devices inside it. Every home can receive the fastest broadband available anywhere in the country.

High-tech energy efficiency is also an important part of a certified green development like Water’s Edge. We believe America’s new homes can be cost effective to build as well as energy efficient to live in. In fact, the energy consumption of new houses can be reduced by as much as 50% with little or no impact on the cost of construction through a systems engineering approach, as advocated by Building America. Water’s Edge will only partner with builders who construct to stringent LEED for Homes, Building America and Energy Star standards, which cover energy efficiency, durability, indoor air quality, comfort and resource efficiency. Check with Chuck Miller Construction for a current builder team list.

Every Water’s Edge home will be built with the latest energy-efficient features, such as advanced framing systems; tightly sealed building envelopes; improved insulation; energy efficient windows; location of ductwork in conditioned space; sealing ductwork; and highly efficient heating and cooling equipment that is matched to the size and build of the home. The latest in Smart Home and energy efficient technology is available, such as computer-controlled heating, air conditioning, appliances, lights, curtains and blinds.
